Here’s how a $10,000 Over desk with an 8% max loss compares with trading the same size on Hyperliquid at 40x leverage, and with buying a $10,000 account from an instant-funded prop firm. All three give you $10,000 of exposure, but what you put down, what you can lose and what ends the account are very different.
Side by side
| Over desk | Hyperliquid 40x | Instant-funded prop firm | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cash to open | $14.40, held in your balance | $250 of margin | A $337 fee you don’t get back |
| Wrong in the first five days | At most $24 in fees | You lose the $250 | You lose the $337 |
| What ends the account | An 8% loss, with no daily limit | A 1.25% move against you | A 6% loss, or 3% in one day |
| Trading fees | None | 0.045% on every trade | Exchange fees on every trade |
| What $100 gets you | About 24 days of trading | Not enough to open | Not enough to buy an account |
Why it works out this way
On Hyperliquid your margin is real money, so at 40x a small move against you takes all of it. A prop firm asks for a fee up front that you lose as soon as the account breaks a rule, whether that happens on day one or day eighty. On Over you only pay for the days your desk is open, nothing you hold in your balance is spent until those days pass, and the floor is the only line you can cross. The most you can ever lose is the fees you’ve paid. See Prop funding rate.
